What this service does
IT Hot Seat lets you practice job interviews. You answer questions by voice or text and receive an AI-written review.
What we receive
- Your answers as text. When you ask for a review, the text of your answers and the questions is sent to our servers and on to an AI provider (Anthropic) to write the review. To let you retry if your connection drops, the finished review is kept for a few hours, linked only to a random session number.
- Your role and level choices, used to write the questions.
- Payment details for Pro are handled by Stripe. We never see your card number. Your recovery code contains only a Stripe customer and subscription identifier.
- Your email address, for the free interview. We email you a one-time code through our email provider (Resend). To allow one free interview per address, we keep a one-way hashed form of your address, not the address itself.
- Our mailing list, only if you tick the box. If you ask for interview tips and product updates, we keep your email address to send them. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
- Your email address, if you are a subscriber signing in. We use it to look up your subscription at Stripe and to send you a one-time sign-in link.
- Usage counters. To enforce the free practice limit and prevent abuse, we keep counts (for example, how many free interviews and requests) under an identifier made by one-way hashing your IP address and browser type together. We do not store your raw IP address in these counters. Our hosting provider (Netlify) keeps standard server logs.
Veteran verification
If you choose to verify with ID.me, you sign in on ID.me's site. We use only one thing from ID.me: whether your military affiliation is verified. We never see your ID documents, and we store nothing from ID.me.
Voice
When you press Record, your speech is turned into text in one of two ways, depending on how the service is set up and which browser you use:
- Our speech-to-text provider (Deepgram). The recording is sent through our servers to Deepgram, which returns the text. We do not store the audio.
- Your browser's own speech recognition. Your browser may send the audio to its maker's speech service (for example Google for Chrome or Apple for Safari). Their privacy policies apply to that processing, and the audio does not reach us.
On your device
We store a few settings in your browser's local storage: your role and level, your Field Guide progress, whether you used the free practice interview, and your Pro recovery code if you subscribe. Clearing your browser data removes them.
